Biosketch
Francis is a former student of the Ecole Pratique des Hautes Etudes (1985-1990). Trained as a palaeontologist, he specialised in the study of Neogene mammals.
He has been Curator at the Toulouse Museum since 1982 and is now Director of the Museum and of all the museums and monuments of the city of Toulouse.
Among the main results of his work are the discovery of the Montreal paleontological deposit in the Gers (France), an international reference level of the MN4, and the discovery of the oldest South American caviomorphs.
Very involved in the protection of the geological heritage, he is a member of the National Council for the Protection of Nature, the National Commission for the National Inventory of Geological Heritage and IUCN France. He is also a member of the Board of Ecsite, the European network of museums and science centres.
He has participated in the organisation of several scientific meetings such as the first international symposium on Pterosaurs or the first European seminar on the protection of geological heritage which he hosted at the Toulouse Museum.
